“Monster” Stars Spotted in the Tarantula Nebula

Scientists have discovered that the Tarantula Nebula, which is 170,000 light years from Earth, contains nine “monster” stars that, together, are more than 100 times larger than the sun! These stars also “outshine” the sun by “a factor of 30 million,” according to the European Space Agency. In addition to these, dozens of more stars were found that are 50 times as big as the sun or even bigger.

The monster stars are only found in the youngest star clusters as they only live for 2-3 million years. We only know of few of these stars in our galaxy, so this discovery was a huge deal. Pretty awesome!
